What Is Coir Matting?

Coir Matting is made from the fibres of coconuts. These fibres are extracted from the husk and woven together to create a strong, resilient matting that stands up against heavy foot traffic, dust, mud and other debris. One of the most popular types of door mats, Coir Matting is incredibly easy to maintain and clean. All you need to do is give it a brush or vacuum every now and then, and it will keep its original appearance for years to come. What Are The Benefits Of Coir Matting?

Let's explore a few of the benefits of purchasing natural coir matting for your home:

Durable and Resilient

Coir Matting is strong and durable, making it a great choice for high-traffic entryways. The fibres are tightly woven together so that no dirt or mud can penetrate the mat and make its way into your home.

Easy Maintenance

This type of matting is also incredibly easy to clean and maintain. All you need to do is give it a brush when the dirt is dry, and it'll come off in no time!

Eco-friendly

Since Coir Matting isn't made from synthetic fibres, it is a great choice for those looking to make their home more eco-friendly and sustainable. The fact that coconuts are renewable makes them an even better option in terms of sustainability.

Stylish and Attractive

Coir Matting comes in a range of natural colours and textures, which makes it easy to blend in with any style of decor. The addition of a coir mat will also add a touch of sophistication and elegance to your entranceway.

Customisable

If you have a specific colour theme in your entrance area, the chances are you'll want your door mat to complement it. Luckily, coir matting also comes in a range of colours and coir matting cut to size, will help you find the perfect mat for your home.

Coir Matting Thicknesses

Here at Make an Entrance, our coir mats come in a range of thicknesses, as we understand the importance of finding the right mat for your home. If you have a mat well, the thickness is incredibly important, as you'll want your coir matting to be flush and create an even surface. Our mat thicknesses range from 14mm to 30mm, so there's a great range of floor mats available.

Coir Matting Grades

Coir matting also comes in a range of different grades. For the cost-conscious, we offer coir matting with PVC backing but would recommend this as a type of temporary matting or in an area that does not get a lot of footfall. Next, our most popular range is the Superior PVC Backed Coir Matting. Whilst being hard-wearing, as well as naturally beautiful, it is ideal for mat wells and can be cut to size well. Finally, we have the Heavy Duty Commercial Grade that is specifically designed for the wear and tear of commercial shops and offices. However, this is now being purchased for homes too in recent years. For more information on grades, delivery times and charges please get in touch with our customer service team. They'll be more than happy to help answer any questions you may have and advise on the best matting for you.

Coir Matting Sizes

The size of your coir matting is another important factor. Did you know that your door mat should be at least as wide as your front door? Otherwise, you're not getting the maximum efficiency out of it. We'll cut your door mats to the exact size you want, so you can get that perfect fit. With no wastage, we only charge you what you need. A coir mat cut to size will ensure that you have the best mat for your home! Coir Matting Colours:

We offer a range of colours, including black, dark brown, green, dark red, red, orange, and grey. This ensures that you can choose from a wide range of options to match the colour scheme in your home. For example, if you have a dark brown mat with a straight edge, this would complement cream-coloured walls perfectly!

How To Clean Coir Matting:

Here are a few steps you can take to keep your Coir Matting looking its best:
  • If there is any dirt on your mat, make sure the stain is not wet prior to cleaning. If the stain is damp, rubbing this with a cloth can potentially damage the mat and set the stain.
  • Instead, wait for the stain to dry and then use a brush or vacuum cleaner to remove it.
  • Use a stiff brush regularly to deep clean the mat, and remove any stubborn dirt or debris.

Coir Matting FAQs:

We've done our best to try and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about coir matting below:

Is Coir Matting The Same as Coconut Matting?

Coir matting is often called coconut matting as well. This is because the natural fibres are made from the husk of a coconut. Hence, they can be called coconut mats as well. You can also get a synthetic version of coir matting which comes in a much thinner thickness.

How Long Do Coir Mats Last?

Coir mats can last a few years if maintained properly! Keep in mind that this is a water-absorbent material, so can be prone to becoming water logged. This is why we recommend coir matting as an indoor mat.

What Is Coir Matting Made From?

Coir mats are made from coconut husks. Due to the natural fibres, they have a thick finish which makes it easy to remove dried dirt from boots. Additionally, a coconut mat is one of the most popular types of entrance matting in the UK.

Can You Vacuum Coir Mats?

We do not recommend using your vacuum cleaner coir mats unless completely necessary. We recommend picking up the coir matting and giving it a shake outside, which will dislodge any dried dirt and loose coir fibres. You can also use one of our coir matting cleaning brushes to clean any dried dirt from the top of the mat. However, if your coir coconut matting is large and too heavy to be picked up, you can vacuum your coir mat using the brush attachment of your hoover. If you are unsure, your order shall come with a care and fitting guide.

What Size Should My Coir Matting Be?

There is no specific size that your coir mat should be. However, we recommend ensuring that your matting is just as wide as your front door for maximum efficiency. If you have a particularly small doorway, the size coir matting cut to will be less than the average doormat. if you have any specific requirements, please let us know, and we will do our best to advise.
